Management of the Principles and Practice for Risk Assessment

Background

Employers are legally required to identify and determine health and safety systems, which are appropriate to their own workplaces. One of the most important systems is risk assessment.

Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations employers have a legal duty to make suitable and sufficient assessment of risks to the health and safety of employees and all those who may be affected. A properly implemented risk assessment programme will help determine necessary controls to eliminate or reduce risks and assist effective business management. Risk assessment plays an important part in staff commitment and business success as it promotes improved standards of health and safety throughout the organisation.

Programme Structure

This programme will give a detailed description to the main areas of risk assessment as part of a management system. The course consists of two full day workshops, delivered over consecutive weeks, (alternative arrangements can be discussed) delegates are required to attend both workshops. Following the workshops a written assignment must be completed within a set time period.

The aim of this award is to develop the delegate’s knowledge and practical skills so as to improve competency in carrying out risk assessments under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
